David Slade To Direct ‘The Twilight Saga: Eclipse’
David Slade will direct “Eclipse,” Summit Entertainment announced in a statement released to Access Hollywood on Thursday.
Slade, who is best known for 2006’s indie Ellen Page-starring film “Hard Candy” and 2007’s “30 Days Of Night,” will direct a screenplay again written by Melissa Rosenberg based on the Stephenie Meyer’s blockbuster book series. Summit also announced that “Eclipse” would be released in North America on Wednesday, June 30, 2010.
“I am thrilled that David Slade will be directing ‘Eclipse.’ He’s a visionary filmmaker who has so much to offer this franchise. From the beginning, we’ve been blessed with wonderful directorial talent for the Twilight Saga, and I’m so happy that ‘Eclipse’ will be carrying on with that tradition,” Meyer said in a statement released to Access.Summit’s President of Production, Erik Feig, echoed Meyer’s sentiments, saying, “Stephenie Meyer’s ‘Eclipse’ is a muscular, rich, vivid book and we at Summit looked long and hard for a director who could do it justice. We believe we have found that talent in David Slade, a director who has been able to create complex, visually arresting worlds. We cannot wait to see the ‘Eclipse’ he brings to life and brings to the fans eagerly awaiting its arrival in summer of 2010.”
In the third “Twilight Saga” movie, Bella (Kristen Stewart) finds herself surrounded by danger as Seattle is plagued by a string of mysterious killings as a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge. Bella is forced to choose between her love for Edward (Robert Pattinson) and her friendship with Jacob (Taylor Lautner) — knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella is confronted with the most important decision of her life.
'New Moon' To Go on as Planned
"Twilight" fans can breathe a sigh of relief after studio executives confirmed the upcoming sequel "New Moon" will not be affected by an ongoing lawsuit against author Stephanie Meyer.
The writer, who penned the books on which the films are based, is facing legal action from her former college roommate, who alleges Meyer based the novels on a short story she wrote as a student. The lawsuit was reported to have had severe implications for the film franchise -- which stars Robert Pattinson -- with Internet gossips speculating that the shooting of "New Moon" in Canada had been halted. But a spokesperson from Summit Entertainment, the company behind the movie, insists "New Moon" remains on schedule for a November 20 release. The rep tells MSNBC.com, "Production is underway, in Vancouver, totally as planned. There is no delay. Whatever you're hearing about a lawsuit interfering with the film (and) its release, all I can say is it's totally false."
New Moon's Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart talk vampires to Seventeen magazine Mexico
Seventeen Magazine Mexico
Twilight and New Moon's Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart sat down for interviews with Seventeen magazine Mexico to discuss above all things - vampires.
The following is an excerpt from the dual interviews:
Kristen Stewart -
A lot of girls all over the world have fallen in love with Twilight. Yes, it’s a story that can grab you easily because it has a magnetism that makes you become obssessed with it. It makes you want to read the whole thing and you’re not happy until you’re done with the last page.
When you were reading the books, was there a scene that you looked forward to filming? Yes, I imagined the whole scene when Bella learns the truth about Edward. The whole plot is about struggling. Struggling to find out more about him, struggling to make him know that Bella knows what he is and she doesn’t mind. When he finally reveals himself it’s a really cool thing because he’s afraid to show himself as what he really is. And I loved how they comunicated without words. I think it’s the best scene.
What kind of person is Bella? I like her weakness. That’s my favorite thing about her because she presents herself as the victim, the damsel in distress and that’s what the whole relationship is about. The dynamic is fun, he’s a vampire and he could drain all her blood, but she’s not affraid of him.
Can you relate with her? She’s a typical girl. I relate to her because of her personal strength. She has her convictions very defined, so when she believes in something she defends it.
Robert Pattinson -
Where you intrigued by vampires? Not really. I think it’s weird the obssession some people have with them. I only read Dracula when I was filming the movie.
How do you feel about having so many girls following you around? It’s scary because it’s something that it hadn’t happened to me before. Twilight fans are very loyal to the book and to Stephenie Meyer. I had a 100% negative reaction from fans when I got the role of Edward.
Why? For everything. Edward is some sort of perfect creature, the ideal guy. And fans wanted a guy like Leonardo DiCaprio, but Edward is suppossed to be 17. When I met Stephenie Meyer, she aproved me for the character and literally the next day all the fans changed their minds and accepted me.
It must be hard trying to be so perfect. It is. First I read the book and I thought there was no way that I could play and create all those perfect descriptions of Edward. Nobody in the world could have rbought to life someone so awesome. Then I read the script and auditioned with Kristen, and she acted in a very unexpected way. She gave strength to Bella so that made Edward’s character a little bit more weak, and I took it from there. He, being some kind of demon, is completely taken with her. She dominates him.
How do you feel about being in such a blockbuster hit like Harry Potter and now in Twilight? To be honest, I never thought of this when I got the role. Harry Potter was my first chance of reaching an audience and now this movie has become very successful too. It was very unexpected.
Have you been harder on yourself, since you’re playing such a perfect character? Not really. I didn’ try to be perfect, I based him off on celebrities like James Dean, people with an endless charm. In this movie he’s very chivalrous, but I tried to make him sexier in the movie. I used the fact that I’m a vampire, I want people to think I’m mysterious and dangerous at the same time.
Maybe its just me but i know when i go looking for stuff to put in my updates this kind of rumors get annoying
Robert Pattinson: 'I'm a
Paranoid Wreck'
Twilight star Robert Pattinson is discovering that fame isn't all it's cracked up to be. "I’m kind of a paranoid wreck [since Twilight became a hit]," Rob, 22, tells Entertainment Tonight.
Pattinson, who was a struggling unknown before the vampire romance catapulted him to overnight A-list status, says he's concerned about the toll fame will have on his personal relationships.
"Change isn’t always good," says Rob. "I’m always really worried about ruining [friends'] lives, especially with people that aren’t famous. It’s such a massive change."
Pattinson is in Vancouver these days shooting New Moon, the sequel to Twilight. Because of the film's stunning mainstream popularity, the single Rob has been romantically linked to several of his co-stars, including Kristen Stewart, 19, and Nikki Reed, 20.
But Pattinson, who is single, says celebrity hasn't helped his social life. "It’s funny, you can’t even get through to people on the phone," says Rob. "[Personal assistants] won’t even let you ring people up. I can’t even ring down to reception and say let [visitors] up. I have to literally go down and carry them."
Meanwhile, the modest and reserved Brit has earned high praise from his female co-stars, including Emma Watson ("Hermione Granger"), who co-starred with Pattinson in the 2005 blockbuster Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. "I'm very happy for Rob that [Twi] been so successful," says Watson, 18. "He is a very, very handsome man, so I'm not too surprised."
Rob's New Moon co-stars are equally enthusiastic about the London native. "He’s really talented, really smart," says Nikki Reed, who plays vampire Rosalie Hale. "He’s really musical, he’s an intellectual.
Kristen Stewart, who plays Bella Swan, agrees. "He's a good actor and has a really insane work ethic," she says. "He is really sensitive; he's perfect."
Ashley Greene, who plays the adorable Alice Cullen, is equally enthusiastic about Rob. "He’s just dreamy," says Ashley, 22. "He’s just very awkward around the limelight. He gets really nervous when people come up to him; he stutters and stammers and doesn’t really know what to do. Oh, it’s so cute."
New Moon comes out in November.
The following is from stephenie meyer, about all
the internet rumors
April 21, 2009
There are a lot of things I should be doing updates on—for example, how awesome and successful the Book Babe event was, and how cool it was to meet all the other authors and hang out with them a little bit, and how much I appreciated all the tremendous support from the fans—but instead of commenting on happy things (which I admit I should have done a week ago; I was waiting for things to slow down for a day, silly me!), I'm commenting on ridiculous internet rumors so that my publicist's day will be just a little bit better.
I am not being sued. No one has contacted me or my publisher to inform either of us that I'm being sued. I never had a roommate named Heidi. There is no professor in the BYU English department named Dr. Peter Benton (though there is a character on ER by that name). And most of all, I began writing Twilight exactly the way I've told people in countless interviews and events for the past six years: I had a cool dream, I wrote it down, writing it down was really fun, so I kept writing until I had a whole book.
The sad thing about this silly situation is that so many legitimate news outlets reported it without doing any research at all to determine if there was any truth to the story. And at least two of these facts are really, really easy to confirm. Particularly, the one about the BYU professor. A simple on-line search can give you that information. Also, a quick call to my publisher would have cleared up the whole lawsuit story. (Kudos to the fansites who did their due diligence and debunked this rumor days ago.)
I guess the moral of the story is that—big surprise—you can't believe everything you read on the internet. Seems like it's April Fool's Day every day on-line. So no worries, the filming of New Moon continues uninterrupted. And, to end this on a bright note, the filming of New Moon continues to be awesome. It's all so beautiful! Chris Weitz is brilliant. Kristen, Rob, and Taylor are beyond words. I have gotten choked up more than once on set due to their amazing performances. I can't wait to see it all put together!
